get out the #VOTE!

 get out the #VOTE!

what do we know about getting out the vote?
I know personal contact matters
peer pressure works
impress on people that they are voters, that this is part of their identity
invite people to ask for whatever help will make their voting easier – child care, transportation, information about where/when to go and what they might need to bring
information about where/how to register, and help to do that
make it fun with get out the #vote parties, after vote parties, strategy parties, community parties (“political parties” but the fun kind)
what else?

When we talk about threats to #democracy, it may seem some
philosophical argument without real daily life immediacy.
Think, though – we are talking about our long, hard, mortally
fought for rights: our ability to be who we are and demand more,
hope for better futures, power to speak our minds, to demand
our human dignity, our possibility to improve the background
rules we live by, to not be helpless against uncaring aristocrats
and ignorant mobs.

people make loud stands on social media, but if you really mean your fear and rage make sure you go out to the polls with people who need transportation or help navigating possible dangers; watch the poll watchers and intercede as prudent (also, ask around to find out what help people may need in your neighborhood to vote)

it seems to generally be the nonvoters that are the bulk of the electorate – abdication of democracy
perhaps because we don’t emphasize that voting is the minimum duty of citizens in a democracy
or perhaps because we who claim our great concern about how our nation is run are not doing our due diligence in getting out the vote – finding out what keeps people from voting and doing all we can to make it easier for them

human wrongs/common ground

human wrongs/common ground

Meanness is a hideous look

which seems to go unnoticed by those who think

it makes them look cool

Far beyond cruelty

into a whole other realm

of horror, dishonour and disdain

to observe crushing pain

and serve utility

by crushing more

They say them liberal critters

Got their heads up in the clouds

They haven't got a clue to how

to live here on the ground.

They give hand-outs to criminals

Can't tell a foe from friend

They're scared of guns and gumption

so ready to amend.

But there's something we agree on

If we're all on common ground

You help folks if they stumble;

don't kick 'em when they're down.

VOTE!

Too many people don't want

a government that works for them.

They want a government to blame

for their dissatisfactions.

The rising prices aren't set by

legislators, the President, the

politicians.  They are set by the

market -- you know, what the Right

has traditionally insisted our

economy be based on.

It's not an "illegal immigrant" crisis.

It's a desperate refugee crisis, and

like inflation, it's happening everywhere,

many places much more so than here,

which has been framed wrongly for

political gain that makes actual,

useful solutions much more difficult

to institute.

It ought to be clear to people who bother

to think about it that Democratic policies

to combat crime and inflation, to improve

the streets and the economy, are far superior

to those, when any are actually offered, of

the Republicans.

Pretty much the Republicans take their idea

of an opposition party to mean their job is t

o tear down Democratic

leaders and ideas by whatever means necessary,

especially including lies, disinformation,

loud nonsense, violence and threats.

it's more complicated than yes or no

It doesn't matter ultimately (except to those

directly affected) if the debt is forgiven,

if such debts continue to arise.  What is

needed are real and abundant opportunities

for education for free or reasonable cost.

Yes, people who are currently overburdened

by debts need relief.  Perhaps allowing bankruptcy

would help, as well as forgiveness programs

for certain kinds of desired employment and for

those in or near poverty.  Contracts entered in

good faith ought to be honored, but there are

different ways to do so with good sense and compassion.

there is crime and crime

there are vast laws cast upon the books,

too many to know about and understand,

all may be broken

when you think "crime" a picture appears

in your mind

what about the rest?

It is what it is

here in simulation

the gods demand

as tribute their entertainment

no choices given

even as I feel my will's

agitation, opposition, dissipation

People who make it

sooo important

to make their others

miserable, to punish,

create needless suffering

in a world of too much tragic pain --

how are such people given free reign,

allowed to define real lives?

We are no threat

We're trying to fit in,

to be liked.

What is it that you want?

it occurs to me that medically labeling

people based on their perceived behaviors

is not going to make anything better

the social sea

These are not natural laws, unsubvertible --

these are people's ideas which

have somehow caught on.

these people are not Christians in any sense

that Jesus would recognize

if anything, they are radically conservative Jews,

worshiping the angry god of the Old Testament in

ways that would make Jesus so horribly sad

Silly Humans, wasting all that energy --

who knows what you could accomplisy

using your powers for good

rather than evil?

Outside of society, telling myself stories

I send out like messages in bottles

tossed into the social sea.
