They say depressive folk
see the world
more
realistically.
But it’s not realism that
brings us down.
It just all feels so
beyond our ability
to change.
Yet change will be, as
change is the
one true
constant.
No we cannot recreate what
is real
to fit our
plans.
Yes, we can plan and act
in thoughtful
ways that help sway the
direction
of change.
But the weight of our
understood world
can get so
immense.
We feel frustration,
energized into rage.
Without clear place to
make that anger
win our cause, it builds,
and accretes
with memories of shame,
turns itself
to blame against our own
mistakes,
unfortunate choices, to
take the only
control we feel
allowed.
We have expectation,
assumptions
of what total strangers
believe, based
on our experience of our
own motives
and shame.
Traditional end days have
been based
on religious
prophecy.
Today’s are based in
science.
See our behaviors through
the lens of
apocalyptic
desperation.
